]]>I found this red fox (Vulpes vulpes) nursing her young pups on a warm spring day near Darlington, MD. She brought her three pups out to feed, but one of them decided to explore. She watched it carefully for good reason. The fox dug her borrow immediately below a bald eagle's nest!

]]>This American marten (Martes americana) (sometimes referred to as the pine marten) is a captive animal at Kroschel Animal Farm near Haines, Alaska. The chest pattern on this one is very distinctive. Martens are very cute and always on the move.
The American marten is a long, slender-bodied weasel about the size of a mink with relatively large rounded ears, short limbs, and a bushy tail. American marten have a roughly triangular head and sharp nose. Their long, silky fur ranges in color from pale yellowish buff to tawny brown to almost black.
